Facebook To The Rescue!

Ever have one of those days where nothing seems to go right.

You know the ones I am talking about. From the moment your feet hit the floor, you just know it’s going to be one of those days!

Well, I had one of those the other day. Nothing was wrong as such, but in saying that, nothing was right!

I hadn’t slept well the night before, so things were off to a bad start even before the day began! It was cold and wet outside, the kids decided they didn’t want to do school work, but instead antagonize each other all day. I was feeling as flat as a pancake and all I wanted to do was lie on the couch, stuff my face full of french fries, and watch a trashy movie!

facebookSo I decided I would spend some time on Facebook, as we all know Facebook has the answer to all our problems! Well, okay, maybe it wasn’t going to solve all my problems, but at least I could escape for 15 minutes and see everyone else’s troubles, and maybe realize that mine wasn’t actually that bad! As I was scrolling through, one of my friends had posted a “Like for a Like” thing. Now if you don’t know what that is, it’s where you “like” their status, and then they will post on your wall what they like about you. I thought “What the heck, this should be interesting” especially with the day I had been having! So I hit the like button! I was gobsmacked with what he (yes, this was a guy who had done this!) wrote on my wall:

Kathy Strong
I love how you are so talented in so many different areas in life and that you allow others to see this of you and celebrate with you
I love that you titled your blog “A fish out of water”.It says so much about you. A person who knows they weren’t born to fit in but to stand out and shine!!
I love that you empower and release women to know who they are and what they can also achieve
I love how you champion generosity and that you celebrate others successes
I love how you have brought your children up to model the values that are important to you
I love how you’re a great family friend!!
I love how you never stop dreaming, never stop hoping and never stop believing in the goodness of God
I love how you love other peoples’ kids like they are your own
I love how if you had to put the word Family as an acrostic. F would be for FUN in capital letters
I love how you’re married to Phil!!

WOW! I was honestly brought to tears!

Talk about turning the day around! I was so blown away that he would take the time to do this for me, and have since discovered he did this for 31 people! He had no idea what kind of day I was having or just how much I needed to hear those words (even if I had a battle going on in my head about believing them!)

It got me thinking.  How generous am I with my words, and what I speak into people’s lives. I really believe what my friend did was a God thing, and I am thankful that he listened to that prompting and was obedient because it turned my day around completely.

How often does someone pop into your mind for no apparent reason? I know for me it happens often. Sometimes I am prompted to pray for that person or to send them an encouraging text or card. To be honest, some days I do nothing about it, but after this week I am going to be more diligent and intentional with my words!

You never know how they can turn someone’s day around!
