The Power Of A “Yes”

Okay, so confession time.

I watch “Britain’s Got Talent” I love watching the super talented people and probably more than that, I love watching the people who can’t sing or dance at all. I cringe as they stand up there, open their mouths, and a noise that resembles a dying cat comes out!

As you probably know by now I am a crier, so most weeks I have tears in my eyes as the incredibly talented people make it to the next round. From the 6-year-old girl who can sing like Celine Dion to the 80-year-old Grandma who can dance like she’s 20!

Their lives are changed in a split second by one word “Yes!” A 3 letter word that seems so simple, yet has the power to change everything! I wrote last year about having “yes days’ with the kids (you can read that here) which I love doing! It gets me out of the rut of always saying no and makes for a much happier home!

So I got to thinking, what if I said yes more in my life!

What if I used that little 3 letter word more and started saying “YES” I tend to be more of an introvert and love being at home. I get energized by being by myself, by taking time out from the world, hiding away in my own wee bubble. Now, this is good sometimes, but it’s not healthy to do all the time. So I have started saying “yes” to things that normally, my initial reaction would be a no! Things like being asked out for a coffee, lunch or to just hang with friends! Don’t get me wrong, I love doing this stuff, but often my first thought would be that I would rather just stay at home! I have also started saying yes to things that take me out of my comfort zone, and I can tell you, it makes for a way more interesting life!

I think it’s like when I say no to the kids, it’s an automatic response, that sometimes, to be honest, I don’t even think about before it comes out of my mouth. And the same can happen in my own world. I say an automatic “no” before I had thought it through. Sometimes it’s just easier to stay home. But the times lately that I have found myself saying yes have been amazing. Amazing connections with friends, amazing connections with God (especially when I am stepping out of my comfort zone!), and amazing connections with people that are close to me!

So, as always, I will leave you with my 2 cents worth of advice… Say Yes! Just do it, get out of your comfort zone, and start saying yes. It’s amazing the connections and the freedom that will come from 1 simple 3 letter word!

yes
