A Front-Row Seat to a Miracle: Welcome Theo!

We had a date marked on the calendar. We had a plan. But if my years walking with God have taught me anything, it’s that God’s timing is rarely our timing—and His ways are always infinitely higher.

Our sweet grandson, Theo, decided he simply couldn’t wait any longer to meet us. He made his grand, unexpected, and early arrival into the world rather quickly, throwing all our neat schedules completely out the window.

And in all of this, I had a front-row seat to the raw, breathtaking beauty of new life.

Holding your daughter’s hand while she gives birth is a uniquely profound kind of agony and ecstasy. Grace will always be my baby girl. No matter how old she gets, my maternal instinct is to shield her from discomfort, to fix the problem, and to take away the ache. Watching her navigate the intense, crushing pain of labour was one of the hardest things my heart has ever had to witness. I felt entirely helpless in the physical realm.

I got to watch Kelan, step into his new role as a father with a strength that absolutely blew me away. In the middle of the chaos of an early delivery, Kelan was a rock. He didn’t flinch. He stayed right by Grace’s side, whispering encouragement, holding her close, and matching her strength every step of the way. Seeing the man who loves your daughter step up so selflessly to protect and support her in her hardest hour is a gift I will never forget. He did an absolutely amazing job.

In the spiritual realm, the atmosphere of that hospital room was thick with the presence of the Holy Spirit. The rest of the family were in a nearby room, praying together, and boy, did we feel those prayers! How people do it without God, I have no idea!

Then, after the final, exhausting push, the atmosphere completely shifted. The room filled with the sweetest sound on earth: a sharp, healthy baby cry.

In an instant, the agony evaporated, swallowed up by a glory that left us all breathless. I watched through a blur of tears as the doctors placed baby Theo right onto Grace’s chest, with Kelan right there leaning over them both. The transition on Gracie’s face from sheer exhaustion to absolute, unconditional mother-love was a sacred moment. I got to witness the exact second they became a family of three, and the sheer beauty of it was something I will never forget.

Theo’s early arrival was a whirlwind, but looking at his tiny fingers and the perfection that he is, I am overwhelmed by the faithfulness of our Creator. He protected Grace. He sustained Theo. He gave Kelan the strength to lead his family through the storm. He was in it all.

Welcome to the world, precious Theo. You are so squishy and we love and adore you!
