Finding God in the Fog

We spend so much of our lives waiting for the next big thing. We look forward to the day the transition ends, the uncertainty clears, and the layout of our future is neatly mapped out. But if you are sitting in that middle space right now, the quiet, sometimes unsettling territory between where you used to be and where you’re going, you know how exhausting it can feel.

It is easy to treat the “in-between” as empty time. We treat it like a spiritual waiting room, holding our breath until the real action starts again. But I am learning that the middle is not a mistake. It is actually the very place where God does His most beautiful, transformative work.

When we are stuck in limbo, human nature tells us to focus entirely on the outcome. We constantly ask:
“When will this end? What comes next?”
But a profound shift happens when we stop looking for answers from God and just look at Him.

Finding God in all things means shifting our focus from our shifting circumstances to His unchanging character. It means realising that His presence isn’t waiting for us at the next destination; He is walking with us right through the fog. When we stop rushing past the present moment, we begin to spot His fingerprints on the ordinary details of our days, a warm cup of tea brought to you in bed, the smile on your Grandsons face, or the unexpected peace that settles over an empty afternoon.

The in-between seasons strip away the noise. When the familiar routines, titles, and comforts are gone, we are forced to ask the hard questions:
Where is my security found?
Am I relying on my own plans?
Am I leaning entirely on His Word?

Limbo Land is actually a divine place. It’s where our faith graduates from something we talk about on Sundays to a lifeline we hold onto every single morning. In the quiet spaces where we don’t have the answers, God invites us into a deeper level of trust. He uses the pause to reconstruct our hearts, to quiet our anxious minds, and to remind us that we are valued simply for whose we are, not what we are producing.

If you are navigating the blurry middle today, give yourself permission to breathe. You do not need to have the next five steps figured out to be completely safe. Your future is not left to chance; it is being meticulously woven together by a Father who loves you deeply.

Look around your corners today. Don’t wait for the mountaintop to praise Him. Look for the small, quiet miracles right where you are—in the waiting, in the unknown, and in the space between chapters. He is active, He is good, and He is right here in the in-between.
