Do You See What He Sees?
We spend so much of our lives looking at ourselves through a cracked mirror. When I look at my reflection, especially during seasons of major change, it’s easy to focus entirely on the flaws. I see the titles I no longer carry, the mistakes I’ve made, the gray hairs multiplying on my head, and the exhaustion written under my eyes. We evaluate ourselves based on our productivity, our usefulness, and how well we think we are holding everything together.
But have you ever stopped to wonder what God sees when He looks at you?
When the noise of the world is stripped away, and you are just sitting in the quiet of your lounge, His gaze isn’t critical. It isn’t disappointed. It is entirely, breathtakingly full of love.
He Sees His Child, Not Your Resume
When I stepped away from my ministry role at the church, I wrestled with a massive identity crisis. I felt like a worker who had walked off the clock, wondering if my value had vanished with my title. But God doesn’t look at us and see a resume. He doesn’t count our volunteer hours, check our schedules, or measure our worth by how much we can produce for the kingdom.
When God looks at me, He sees His daughter. He looks at you and sees His child. In 1 John 3:1, it says, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” A good father doesn’t love his newborn baby because of what the baby can do; he loves the baby simply because the baby is his. That is how God looks at you. Your identity is anchored in relationship, not performance.
He Sees the Beauty of the Present Moment
When I am sitting on the floor rocking sweet little Theo to sleep, or when I’m folding tiny baby clothes to get ready for Jackson and Ash’s new arrival this December, I realize that God is enjoying those moments right along with me. The world might whisper that I’m “just” a grandma now, or that my life has slowed down too much. But God looks at this quieter chapter and sees a beautiful tapestry being woven.
He sees a heart that is learning to trade the “holy hustle” for holy presence. He sees a woman who loved her sweet dog Pepper fiercely for eleven years and isn’t afraid to let her heart heal in the open. He sees every tear, every laugh, and every quiet prayer whispered over a sleeping grandbaby.
He Sees the Finished Masterpiece
The enemy loves to point out our unfinished pieces—our doubts, our lingering grief, and our anxieties about the “in-between” spaces of life. But God is the ultimate Artist. He doesn’t look at a half-painted canvas and scoff at the mess; He looks at you and sees the finished masterpiece. He looks at you through the lens of Jesus, covered in grace, filled with purpose, and completely whole.
If you are feeling invisible, unmapped, or a little bit lost today, close your eyes and take a deep breath. You don’t have to perform to get His attention. You already have it. Lean into the truth that you are fully known, fiercely protected, and deeply loved, just as you are, right in this very room.
