The Enemy’s subtle weapons!

I had the privilege of speaking at Church last Sunday!
Even though I am a Senior Leader, I still don’t take it for granted that I get to share my heart. There are many Churches where woman are not allowed to speak from the front, so it is something I am thankful that our Church supports!

I am not a theological speaker! I would never win in a theological debate and as much as I try and memorize scripture it seems to slip right through me…..kind of like when I drink too much water!

So when I share, it tends to be more from my heart and more testimony based, because, at the end of the day, no one, and I mean no one can argue with what God has done in my life. From taking me from a screwed up mess of a teenager into a somewhat functioning adult and using me in ways I never dreamed possible, you cannot argue with what He has done!

Last week I shared about the tools and weapons that God has placed in our hands. Those often ordinary and mundane things that we think are nothing special, but when given in service to Him, can change the world….your world!

But I also shared some of the tools the enemy will use. Now his arsenal is limited and nowhere near as powerful as God’s, but if we give him an inch, he will take a mile and we can actually empower those tools with our partnership! And because I am a visual learner I had props to illustrate each example. If you would like, you can listen to the podcast here.

I have had quite a few people ask me to expand on those tools, so over the next couple of blogs, I will go through some of the tools I see the enemy using to distract us from our calling and the impact we can have!

The Dressing Gown of Comfort

I think this is one of his biggest tools he uses because we all know that nothing great will ever come out of our comfort zones! If he can get us comfortable, then he knows we will be less effective for God.

If we are comfortable we are less likely to step out and tackle those things God is asking us to change.

Comfort is a thief of our potential and it is the tool of choice for so many. The enemy knows that it is those subtle changes that will bring us down….missing a quiet time cause our bed is so comfy, not sharing our faith, because thats uncomfortable, not helping where needed because it’s out of our comfort zone.
Believe me, comfort can be a killer!

The Chair of Apathy

I think this is a weapon we are seeing more and more of! It’s an epidemic that is sweeping our Nation!

“Oh nah, I can’t be bothered”
“Oh sorry, I just don’t have the time”
“Oh sorry I can’t cause, well, I just don’t want to”
“Sorry, it’s not really my thing”

Apathy friends is a powerful weapon! And if you partner this with our dressing gown of comfort, then the enemy is really winning!

Apathy would tell us that it isn’t really important, that someone else will do it, and it’s not really our problem!

Apathy would whisper in our ear that it’s okay to be indifferent and that our passions can wait till another day. Apathy steals our enthusiasm and makes us feel blaise about what needs to be done!

The Blanket of Lies

Ohhhh, this is a powerful weapon that the enemy will use any chance he gets!

Some of us have been carrying around lies of the enemy since we were 6 years old!

“You are not good enough”
“You are useless”
“You will never change the world”
“You are nothing but a loser”

He will whisper those lies that he knows will take you out, any chance he gets. He is relentless and will not stop trying to get you to believe his lies instead of God’s truth about who you are. Do not be fooled, he is subtle and won’t speak bold lies that can be recognized for what they are. But he will start off with those little ones that are almost true and the ones we will believe when we are having a bad day!

The Chips of Self

When I did this one, it was a little comical, but oh my, there is so much truth in it!

The world would tell us that it’s all about us! If it feels good do it! You are the most important thing and everything, and I mean everything else plays second fiddle to you!

We live in such a self-centered world, and the next generation are really embracing this!

There is nothing wrong with looking after ourselves and taking some time for rest, but the enemy has swung the pendulum to the other extreme and somehow it has become ALL about us!

We are so inwards focused we forget that there is a world full of hurting people out there!

So my challenge for you this week is to notice the enemy’s subtle weapons that he will use to distract you! Recognize what he is trying to do, and combat it with God’s truth and the incredibly powerful weapons that God has given you.
Join me next time as I reveal some more of the enemy’s weapons…..
